About this site

I became annoyed with all the devious ways in which the financial industry makes money from small fry investors like myself. Like any other area of life, it helps to be informed.

  • Mutual funds tend to charge excessive fees and focus on their own bottom line. As a whole, their performance has been abysmal.
  • Many financial advisors have conflicts of interest when they receive kickbacks/commissions for selling products.
  • The exchanges, brokers, and market makers all tend to co-operate in skimming a little bit off every transaction.
  • Insiders at many companies deliver very little shareholder value. They may have conflicts of interest when they receive kickbacks for investment banking fees, may trade against shareholders, any may run the company to maximize their own wealth and not necessarily that of shareholders.

The purpose of this site is to share what I've learned about investing and all the ways individual investors can get ripped off if they're not careful. I've made mistakes in investing... hopefully you don't make the same ones. But, do remember to read this site with a grain of salt... sometimes I am wrong!
